Juergen “Jerry” Friederich Schiddel, 77 of Temperance, MI, died Sunday, February 5, 2017, in Flower Hospital.  Born November 9, 1939 in Freienhagen, Germany, he was the son of Friederich H. and Frieda E. (Kloss) Schiddel.  Jerry immigrated from Germany to the United States at the age of 18, not knowing how to speak English.  He lived with his cousins, George and Erna Southard in Luna Pier, MI, who sponsored him to America.  He then taught himself how to speak English with the help of his cousins.  Jerry served in the US Army for 3 years, then married Charlotte A. Horn on October 21, 1967.  He was employed as a Tool and Die Maker, working for Janson Tool and Die for 27 years until they closed.  Jerry retired from Bel-Kur, Inc. He enjoyed carpentry, making bookcases, cabinets and anything out of wood or metal.  He enjoyed traveling to Florida, where he loved fishing and swimming in the Gulf.  Berlin always held a special place in his heart.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Charlotte; children, Christine (Joe) Gouin and Erich Schiddel; grandchildren, Annalise and Elaina; and brother, Georg W. Schiddel.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 3-8 pm, Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will be held at 10:00 am,  Thursday, February 9, 2017.  Interment will be private.
